Sunday we went to church in Cortez and went out for fathers' day lunch at Fiesta Mexicana. Then we drove to Dolores where you see Peggy and the Gnome getting ready to board the Galloping Goose. Unfortunately the Goose no longer runs and just sits in front of the depot. After visiting a couple of antique stores we went to the Anasazi Heritage Center near Dolores. It is a wonderful historical museum and well worth a visit. The trek to the top of the hill to the ruin was enough hiking for one day.
On Monday, we went to Mesa Verde National Park for much of the day. Here is a picture of the Gnome getting ready to enter the park.
Unfortunately, a couple of pictures can not begin to tell the story of the people who lived here for generations, built all of the magnificent dwellings and then suddenly disappeared. The historians really don't know why they disappeared or where they went. We did a lot of hiking again and came back to the RV in mid afternoon for a refreshing nap. I am including a couple of pictures of cliff palace, even though they don't begin to show the grandeur of the place.
